Beanium Lab

We recently did the beanium lab. It is an activity to help understand isotopes. Isotopes are elements with same proton count but different neutron count. There were different types of beans and each bean had a different mass. These beans represented isotopes. We used these isotope masses to find out the average atomic mass of the beans. This is a way to help us understand how to do this with different elements and their isotopes.

  1. While the lab was quite educational and helpful, it was a bit annoying since the process took quite a while and wan't really that exciting. Hopefully later on in Chemistry we will get to do more labs that involve chemicals and not just beans.

    1. I agree that the lab was a bit annoying. Though our group picked a bag that contained relatively few beans, the groups around us often had to count over 100 beans just to get their data.
